My Dinner Party

Over on Bluesky, I’ve been participating in a “game” (trend?) of posting—once per day for 20 days—the fictional characters I would invite to a dinner party. I’ve made some rules for myself in this, such as not choosing any of my own original characters and not allowing more than one character from a fictional world (with one key exception). And while some of these characters are favorites, others are simply ones I think would be entertaining at a social gathering.

Here, then, are the 19 dinner guests I’ve invited thus far:

  1. Sherlock Holmes (of course he’s first!)
  2. Kinomoto Tōya (Cardcaptor Sakura)
  3. Xie Lian (Heaven Official’s Blessing)
  4. Elizabeth Bennett (Pride and Prejudice)
  5. Lestat (Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles)
  6. Tenjou Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena)
  7. Scrooge McDuck (DuckTales)
  8. Adam Pierson/Methos (Highlander)
  9. Guinan (Star Trek: The Next Generation)
  10. Leslie Knope (Parks and Recreation)
  11. Troy (Community)
  12. Abed (Community)
  13. Ted Lasso
  14. Benoit Blanc (Knives Out)
  15. Deborah Vance (Hacks)
  16. Eliza Doolittle (My Fair Lady)
  17. The [10th] Doctor (Doctor Who)
  18. Q (as portrayed by Ben Whishaw)(James Bond franchise)
  19. Hercule Poirot

The number of detectives may lead one to believe this is going to be a murder party, but I simply think these people would have great stories to tell, and I’d also be keen to see them interact with one another. I considered Q from ST:TNG over Guinan, but even leaving the chaos factor aside, I wanted more female guests. Lestat will be chaotic enough, but I trust the others in attendance will have the strength to deal with him if necessary. And I had a hard time deciding between Ted Lasso and Roy Kent, but felt like Coach Ted’s upbeat energy would lend good vibes to the evening.

Who will the final guest be? I’m struggling to decide, but it will likely be someone from Severance. We’ve seen that Dylan is great at a party, but I might go with Helly just to have one more feminine presence. Outside of Severance, Ron Burgundy has also crossed my mind as a fun possibility.

Which fictional characters would you invite to a dinner party? What kinds of conversations can you imagine taking place amongst those listed above? Tell me about it here or over on Bluesky!
