Why Dumpster’s Low Approval Ratings Don’t Matter (and also why they do)

It has been pretty popular lately for Democrats/Liberals/Progressives/General Dumpster Haters to crow about his tanking approval ratings. And I am as happy as anyone to see them continue to fall. But I don’t think they’re as important as most people believe (or hope), or at least, not for the reasons some might think.

The majority of commentary that I’ve seen likes to surmise that Dumpster must be furious and/or desperate in the face of his unpopularity. It’s a fair conjecture; after all, his vanity is well documented. But there are a number of possibilities that could potentially negate this notion:

  • People around the Dump may conceal these numbers
  • These same people (and the Dumpster himself) would likely argue that it’s “fake news” and the poll numbers are made up by the liberal media
  • Even if he and they know and believe the numbers, they are primed not to care—in short, they can claim “the numbers don’t matter”

Even if the numbers matter to Dumpster and he’s upset about them, the people around him don’t care and here’s why: he’s a figurehead.

What’s happening is that Dumpster ceded his power to those around him, the people who spent big bucks to get him elected. Once they did that, he owed them, and they took the reins. They’ve dictated every move, even if they let him believe he’s brilliant and came up with all these ideas himself. Really, though, he was most interested in staying out of prison. That was his first priority. His second has been to be seen as “strong” in the same way his heroes (Putin, Xi, other shitty dictators) are “strong.” In fact, he wants to be seen as tougher even than them, but that’s a whole other story.

Because the people around the Dump don’t care what the broader population think of him. They don’t care what the world thinks of him. They have their little rodent hands on the levers of power now, and they’re determined to do the things they want to do (and make money from it) whether we like it or not. Protests don’t faze them. The Constitution doesn’t interest them. They’re not actual patriots, they just benefit from cosplaying. (Though anyone looking even a little bit closely can see their “patriot” costumes are cheaply made.)

So, really, the falling approval ratings don’t matter in the face of the bigger issues. If Dumpster cares, he’s not in a position to do anything but grouse. And the people who really are in power (the shadow government at this point, though they’re getting bolder) don’t care because Dumpster’s approval doesn’t impact their agenda. At this point, if they have their way, it won’t even cost them elections because all elections will be rigged in their favor, if not done away with entirely.

Except.

Showing the wider world that most of us do not agree with what is happening in our country is important. There have been clear results in foreign elections directly related to the Dump’s unpopularity. We’ve become the warning to other countries: “It could happen to you, too, if you don’t vote the right way!”

Can the U.S. be saved from its slide towards tyranny? Unclear. Dumpster and his enablers (though, really, he’s enabled them) are riding hell for leather towards their goals, trusting that the system is too slow and unwieldy to stop them. It’s like they’re in a motor boat and we’re on a cruise liner. But it helps to know we’re not alone in hating the way things are going, that a majority of us despise him and his cronies and everything they’re doing. They’ll deny, deny, deny and continue to lie—to themselves and the world. But hopefully the world sees through it.
